Transport, home, companion. He is the TARDIS, always has been, always will be.
Sometimes he's even still a blue box, because it's what he's used to. Most of the time, though, he's people, because it makes communication so much easier.
He likes to travel, he likes to meet new people, and he'll kick your ass at trivia night, he'll do it with a smile, but he'll buy you a drink afterwards to make up for it, because that's just the kind of guy he is.
(The TARDIS is not mine, and I daresay the concept of making it human isn't mine either. The PB is the incomparable James McAvoy, muse, mun and PB are all over 18)
